The IEC standard (International Electrotechnical Commission) Part 10-1 "Classification of areas - Explosive gas atmospheres" was drastically revised in September 2015, and IEC 60079-10-1 Edition 2.0 (hereinafter referred to as IEC Ed2.0) was published.
It is necessary to collect, analyze, and utilize big data within plants using IoT devices to prevent unexpected equipment failures and human errors. To address the need for expanded safe use of non-explosion-proof electronic equipment such as drones, portable sensors, and tablets within plants, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry created the "Guidelines on Precise Methods for Setting Hazardous Areas within Plants" (hereinafter referred to as the "Explosion-Proof Guidelines") in April 2019, based on IEC Ed2.0. In response to this, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency issued Fire and Disaster Management Agency Notice No. 84, "Regarding the Operation of Areas Where Flammable Vapors May Remain in Hazardous Materials Facilities," to prefectural fire departments in the same month of the same year.
Based on IEC Ed2.0 and explosion-proof guidelines, our company has commenced work related to risk assessment of hazardous materials plant areas and the precise designation of explosion-proof areas.
