The Fire and Disaster Management Agency has revised its regulations regarding piping for outdoor water supply facilities for firefighting.
This amendment mandates the following inspections for outdoor fire-fighting water supply facilities that have been in place for 40 years or more.
- Verify whether the pressure pump meets the rated performance specifications.
- At the fire hydrant where the pressure loss from the booster pump is greatest, water is discharged to confirm whether the discharge pressure and water volume are appropriate.
- When a water pressure equal to the shut-off pressure of the booster pump is applied to the piping, check for deformation, damage, or leaks.
While this amendment concerns inspections of aging water supply facilities, the "fire hydrant with the greatest pressure loss" must be determined based on pressure loss calculations for the entire plant's fire extinguishing piping (and for the water supply piping if the water taps specified in the Petroleum Complex Disaster Prevention Act are also used as fire hydrants).
Furthermore, although not explicitly stipulated in this document, we believe it is extremely important to compile information on fire scenarios, required flow rates, and required pressures for each area of the plant, and to perform pressure loss calculations that take into account the passage of time, in order to ensure the safety of the fire extinguishing equipment.

Based on the fire department application documents, we determine the required fire extinguishing capacity and pressure for each area and perform pressure loss calculations for the main water supply and fire extinguishing pipes. We can also handle cases where multiple pumps are installed in multiple locations and parallel operation must be considered.
Furthermore, we can also handle pressure loss calculations for the main pipe, taking into account deterioration over time, as well as pressure loss calculations for smaller fire extinguishing systems such as water spray systems, sprinkler systems, foam systems, and other fire extinguishing systems branching off from the main pipe.
